So, we ended up abandoning our B-Series AWD Project to swap to the much easier, and proven (at the time) K-Series platform.
A lot of the big names in AWD are using some extremely high end and experimental components trying to get them to hook up and get down the track. We've decided to take a more simple approach and upgrade as needed.
The fastest time the car has gone to date (11/22/19 Pass #3) was an 8.63 @ 166MPH.

We started with a 96-98 Civic Hatchback Chassis. In our parts, coming by a relatively clean car is decently difficult. Luckily, this one kind of fell in our lap, and historically, it was one of the first K Swapped civics in Oklahoma back in the early 2000s. The car had been sitting in a storage building for over 10 years and the owner was looking to get rid of all his K-swap stuff and the car for $2500, so we grabbed everything. Full K24 Engine, 2 Transmissions, Built K20 Head, Headers, Mounts, Suspension, etc. The owner had started a shave/tuck job but never finished it, but overall the shell was in decent condition.
We had a K20Z1 Darton Sleeve block laying around, and had just received another Darton Sleeve block for our All Motor Racecar 'La Lenta'. Dropped off both blocks at Stanley Morton (Kayla Morton's dad from Street Outlaws) shop to get O-Ringed and line honed.
Started collecting all the parts for the build. Skunk 2 Ultra Ported by 4Piston Racing. Traum 86.5mm OUTLAW Pistons with upgraded pins. Saenz K20 300M Connecting Rods with 625+ Bolts. Stock TSX K24 Head with 100lb Supertech Springs/Retainers and Ferrea Valves
Found a pair of Civic wagons for $2500 in Wichita, Ks. One running, and one non-running. Drove the blue one back 5 hours and got ready to start tearing them down for the AWD components. Ended up selling the blue auto wagon in its entirety.
Running the KLM Savage Manifold. Good for some big jam on big turbos, ultimate plan was to run a Precision 7685,
Scored a CRV 5-Speed AWD Transmission for a steal of a deal. Ended up replacing all the internals with PPG Dogbox stuff.
Motor Assembled and ready to rock.
Changed the Ultra Side feed plenum with a centerfeed and added the 2L spacer.
Cleaning the car out from being infested with rats and sitting in a storage container for 9 years. Tons of bad stuff inside, but after powerwashing inside and out, we got her clean.
Starting the engine bay shaving process. didn't need a show car level shave, just something so it doesn't look hideous.
Sound deadening removal in preparing for cage fabrication. Knocked it all out in about 30 minutes with the dry ice trick.
Brought her inside for some long term storage while we worked on other projects.
HCP Rear Trailing arm kit, best in the business and proven.
Cage fab started and checking seat placement. Starting with an 8.50 10pt until we break certification.
Cage masked and painted for the extra clean look.
Longblock coming together. My friend Raul Rivera at Gargolas Performance Coatings stepped up coating both the intake manifold and the valve cover and did an amazing job!
HCP had just released the Billet rear diff mount. This is one of the first kits ever done, still has the diff offset whereas new kits are centered for a pair of long axles. Also installed spherical bushings.
Diff mount bolted to the rear subframe ready for diff fabrication. Kit makes it super easy. Just weld a single bar to the chassis and it's ready!
Removing the goodies from the donor car. I'll bring it back to life some day, but for now, we'll borrow its organs.
D
Diff mount fabricated. A single bar welded to two plates on the frame rail. Extremely simple for guys looking for an AWD setup.
Hanging the small turbo on the motor to check clearances and getting ready to drop it in.
PPG 1-4 Dogbox w/ Cuff assembled. Also installed a modified Quaife FWD LSD to work with AWD.
HCP Driveshaft adapter installed to adapt the CRV trans to a wagon driveshaft.
Installing the clutch/flywheel before dropping the motor in.
Motor dropped in after a long day of work.
Starting fabrication of the weight bar and piping.
Front fenders installed and tires really change the look
Full Jerrybuilt front installed.
Weightbar hand cut and welded to the chassis.
Piecuts for daaaaaaays.
Starting to take shape. Up-Pipes fabricated.
Starting to organize everything for the fuel system. Using a Weldon 2345A and Deatschwerks 160 fuel filters. running to a custom 3 gallon fuel cell.
Finishing lines shifter plated mounted and K-Tuned Pro-cut race shifter installed. Cut the hole for the shifter cables as well. had to weld a plate to the chassis to removed the bottom mount shifter hole.
Front end painted, really pulls it together.
Wagon axles for the setup are slightly too short since I have the early model HCP kit. Insane shafts made custom length axles for the offset diff and worked perfectly.
Belaks SAWD Spec with 24.5" Tires.
Wheels really change a build.
Mounting and running lines for the meizere water pump. Tight fitment on everything.
Up-Pipes mounted, extremely close to the prop valve. Later did a brake tuck for safety. Almost ready for first fire.
Starting wiring, ECU mounting plate done, and setting up the ARC-8000 to control the car.
All wired in and looking clean.
First start a success!
Really coming together now.
Taking the car to CARS of Tulsa to get the alignment and get ready to make it's first hit by the weekend.
CARS got it hooked up! She's gonna go straight as an arrow down the track!
Getting ready to make some steam.
Done. Limited to 40psi can't build any more boost at the moment. We're going to have to diagnose the issue. But it's good enough for now.
Starting fabrication on the hoodscoop for the turbo.
Almost complete.
PCI Sideskirts and windshield installed. Just the finishing touches now.
Weightbar to front end fitment is extremely tight.
Painted the front and getting ready to go to the track.
Getting ready for the first hit.
First hit was a 9.40 @ 162MPH, the second hit a 9.30 @ 157MPH. 60 Foot was way down. ~1.6 each pass. Clutch slipped hard on the launch. Pulled the twin out and this is what we found.
Swapping to an Action Clutch Triple disk to get some extra stick.
First pass on the new triple. 8.63 @ 166MPH. Mission accomplished. Time to attack the 7s.
You guys need to get out of here if 8.63 is the best you got. My D16 with a slung rod could walk you like a dog.
Lol jk this is sick!!!!!!!!!
Dont they make an diff with the holes drilled so it can be used for either fwd or awd?
Yes, most new K Series Diffs are dual drilled now. First one was Wavetrac, now Quaife and GearX offer it as well. I bought my diff about 2 months prior to them coming to market unfortunately.
Nice...the pics / single post make it look like it got knocked out really quick, though I'm sure all that took some time. AWD is becoming more and more accessible.
