Default DOT Type R Trans serial tag # ?

Hello I have a question, does anyone know what I can do to obtain a new serial tag number for my DOT Type R trans, This is a dealer replacement I got from a member here a long time ago who worked at Honda, the Type R trans was brand new in the Honda box, they come with a serial tag # but no Vinn but the serial tag #/ bar code is wearing off and I don't want to run into problems with the CHP in CA for not having the proper info. Can I just call a dealer and have them send me a new one or log my info down as the owner? or do I have to go to the state Reff? cause I don't want to go there cause the car is heavily modified.

The transmission should have a r dot stamp if it's a replacement usdm transmission. The state of California isn't okay with Rdot replacements ? Isn't that the point of the r ? No pun intended there.

Can't you simply remove the VIN plate off your original transmission and rivet it to the new transmission ?

I'm almost certain it does but I cant confirm it right now. But it is Guaranteed a Replacement USDM Type R trans. I know my Block has the RDOT stamp and that's another one I need to look into to show proof of ownership. The DOT block has a serial number only as well no Vinn.

The state reff is ok with the DOT engine and trans but you need the serial tag for them to run the info or else they will give you a hard time. I have passed the state reff years ago and I had no issues because they were able to scan the bar code but after years oil and stuff has caused the serial tag to wear away almost all the way so with out the serial tag I cant prove # 1 its mine and not stolen and # 2 that it is a dealer replacement that's legal to swap in my chassis.

No I don't have the original trans I sold it when I got the car and im pretty sure that's super illegal to take another vinn and put it on another case, they will think its stolen. Its one of the reasons why im worried, the CA CHP is always checking the trans for its vinn to match the chassis and if it looks removed or replaced you get sent to the reff for smog and inspection and they could possibly crush your entire car its happened before to people in certain situations. Last time I had a close call when he was shining his flash light on my trans asking me why the Vinn was removed and I tried to explain it was a DOT replacement from the dealership and they only come with a serial tag with bar code, He almost gave me a ref ticket had I not been very polite cause he was being a real dick! just really giving me a hard time luckily I had a few carb numbers to show for the parts I had and he let me go! I just want the proper proof of ownership for also in case my car gets stolen and I can identify the trans and block at least as mine if its found.

I bought a rdot block and still have it , along with the original Box . Never came with a serial sticker. It has the rdot stamp below the stamped serial number. In my state it's a felony to knowingly tamper with a vin and a misdemeanor to unknowingly tamper with one. I am sure California wouldn't be okay with the original vin being moved over , especially being their strict rules . Dc2productions has a good picture where the rdot stamp should be on the transmission that he just posted.

Replacements aren't available, you would have to have a new one printed. It is illegal in every state to tamper with the VIN plate. I would contact the seller and ask for a backdated bill of sale, and if possible get a copy of the original sales receipt.

He is taking about the BARCODE label on the trans not the VIN plate.

Yes I also purchased a brand new DOT block in original box the DOT Trans comes with the sticker, ill have to look for that RHDOT stamp on my Trans. But yea I would like to have a new serial tag for my records. I don't have the messages from the seller nor can I remember what his user name was or thesal es thread on here unless a Moderator could help me retrieve those old messages I erased years ago.

My bad . It was a joke. There was a 27k yellow itr on bat was claimed to be original with replacement panels and fake vin number decals ( poorly done ). Here's the link about the car, not really relevant to your thread.

Cool that you found the seller. Did you locate the dot stamp?
