Default Dipstick?

And, for quite possibly the dumbest post here on H-T, had a question about dipsticks, oil pan and oil in general.

I know dipstick locations vary based on the engine designation, but are the dipsticks different as well? Mainly in regards to length and how they ready oil level? Also, with oil pans, do they vary in capacity depending on the engine?

The reason I ask is because I am still trying to sort out issues from a previous owner that did a D16Z6 swap into a '91 Si hatch. Had bent exhaust valves in Cylinder 1 causing low compression. Would occasionally get little puffs of smoke (which I am assuming is was burnt fuel passing). Got the valves replaced, head machined so valves seat correctly. Got the car back and now it is smoking excessively and constantly.

Everything should be correct now with that cylinder and while trying to think of what may be causing the smoking, checked my oil level. Asshat mechanic apparently overfilled the oil by at least a quart based on the check marks on the dipstick. Prior to the repairs, I kept the oil within the guide marks and had no 'blow by' or smoking issues.

So, question is, do I just need to simply extract the overfill amount and should be good? Could I have an incorrect dipstick in there so it's reading wrong? Possibly wrong oil pan on the engine? I specifically told the mechanic each time I spoke with him prior to bringing the car in about the swap, the engine that is in there and even wrote the engine code, size, etc on the work order sheet. Was the mechanic just a 'tard? Makes me question the rest of the work that was done now.

This ******* car, i swear. But I am determined to get everything sorted on it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes to all of the above.

You needed to make a thread for this?

Wouldn't it be prudent to do this first, regardless of the reasoning, based on the simple fact that you know the situation is amiss?...
