1996 Civic DX manual transmission issues
Hi guys so I was driving my 96 DX with 266k tonight and out of nowhere going 55mph it just let go started making like a grinding gear sound and when I pulled over it will not move at all. I can put it in any gear and it won't go nor will it stall when I left off the clutch. Now some background I bought the car in April about a month ago it started ratling when in idle while clutch was released then would stop when I pressed the clutch in then it has gotten progressively worse then started whining while in gear about two weeks ago and that had gotten really loud really fast over the last week. Now the car is on the side of the road and I'm trying to figure out if the tranny has gone or the clutch went out. And input would be great this is my first Honda and have loved it until now. I should also mention at one point in 1st gear it was making the grinding sound the clunks and moved just a little then wouldn't do it again.
Does the speedometer go up when you put the car in gear and try to move?
If it does, the transmission is working but one of the CV axles has broken or become disengaged from the transmission.
The symptoms suggest that a bearing in the transmision failed and the shaft broke though, you would need a new transmission.
