Default Just picked up a 2000 Civic EX Coupe! Need Pointers For This Project!

What's up, guys. I just picked up a 2000 Civic EX and decided I would join this forum. I picked it up for free from a family friend. It runs and drives, but has one issue, it has the idle surge from 1k to 2k when it's warmed up. If I unplug the TPS it's fine but if not then it surges. I know this has been asked a thousand times, I've googled and searched but maybe not hard enough. I put in a brand new IACV so I don't think that's it. I wanna look for vacuum leaks next but I don't really understand how. If anyone can give me some pointers on where to start with that, that would be great. And if anyone wants to help me make it pretty with some mods, feel free to post your favorites or ones that you think would be good! I need ideas. Thank you!

I'm having the same issue, definitely search this forum for 'IACV' and you'll get a lot of results. I've read spraying carb cleaner around the intake hoses might show you if you have a leak, as it'll suck it up and you'll notice by the sound of the engine. You can also spray some warm soapy water around some of the hoses and check for bubbles.

I think I also read you could have air in the coolant, so maybe bleed it. Again, I've read at least 8-10 threads on the forum around IACV so I suggest you read the replies in those threads.

The carburetor cleaner trick is good, but not the soapy water. Engine vacuum will suck it in, not blow bubbles.

OP, have you checked codes?

i checked codes yea, one for a knock sensor and another was for the PCM detecting a problem with the IAC valve. but the valve i got is brand new :/ could the knock sensor be doing it ? smells like it’s running hella rich too
