Hi guys, I need little help.

Here's the situation.
I got Koni Shocks that are built for 5 gen Civic ( EG ), and I want to install them on my Civic EJ9, 6 gen.
They have height adjustable option, and I was planing to put OEM springs, and adjust shocks to the lower option.
I want to know will that work fine? I don't want slammed car, just car that rides fine.
My mechanic said it will probably going to ruing shock because of piston travel, he said problem is that OEM spring is too long and it will rock my shock after a while.

What is your opinion?

itll be fine. its not that low. it was meant to offer the height adjustment option.

just keep your bumpstops in. it cant ruin the shocks if it never bottoms out internally.

 

I understand it was meant to offer height adjustment, but for how much I did understand my mechanic, he said it will be pulling piston out, and it will be hitting it at the top side od shock, bud i don't understand how it is that possible.
In my head, it is same situation if I put OEM springs at bottom option of height adjustment, or I put eibach springs on top level.
Now i'm thinking, maybe he didnt understand me good, maybe he tought I'm planning to put OEM spring at the top level, but still, is it possible that spring would be pulling piston out?

we're talking about which groove you put the snap ring, right?

 

Your mechanic probably thought you would "top out" the shock if you used the a HIGHER snap ring position than stock.

You're using a lower position.

No, it won't ruin the piston...but you will be engaging the bumpstops all the time at the lower position. I still would not cut the bumpstops, though.

I think the groove is ~15mm lower...so you're going to end up with about a 23-25mm drop.

 

Yes, I too think he was talking about that, probably he didn't understand me good, because I would like to use second position, with OEM springs.
23-25 mm drop would be perfect for me, but again, I wouldn't like to be engaging bump stops all the time.

I'm gonna try to measure difference between Koni for 5 gen, and OEM 6 gen shocks, and will definitely try installing Konis with oem, just to see how much drop I will get.

The bumpstop is part of the rate on these cars. You're using the bumpstops every time you drive it.

My point was that you probably don't want to cut them because you will change their "spring rate".

5G and 6G shock strokes/body lengths should be 100% identical. The rear forks are narrower on the 6G.
