From what I remember, that's normal. It pushes in and stops there. If you don't push it in all the way though, you'll know because the wheels won't turn at all. So if the wheels are getting power, then it's pushed in all the way.

Correct, no C-clip on the intermediate shaft, because the bearing carrier bolts to the block to prevent the intermediate shaft from backing out of the differential. The axles themselves (or the intermediate shaft outer splines) need the C-clip to prevent the axle from backing out.

Also I'm not totally sure but that passenger side inner joint doesn't look like it's in there all the way. Maybe it is. It's been awhile since I've replaced my passenger side axle.

It should definitely be in further, Did you try tapping the spindle end with a hammer a few times? It should pop into place.

I always get the inner joint end of the axle started into the differential, and then just use the joint itself to whack it into place. I grab hold of the axle and outer joint, then slide the inner joint in and out slightly, sort of like a slide hammer, to get the inner joint splines to seat. I'm thinking the C-clip in your first pic above isn't seated all the way. If you drive it the axle will probably pop out and you'll spill gear oil all over the street.

From the picture you took with the axle installed, that looks correct to me. I remember always having a little room to put a pry bar in to help pop the axle out when uninstalling. If anything, it just has to go in a little more. You can help it by having one person spin the axle slightly as you tap on the inboard with a rubber mallet. Try pulling it back out and then do that method when you put it back in. Also make sure it's a new c-clip. And again, it probably won't put power to the wheels if it's not 100% pushed in. I had that issue when I put a new clutch in, thinking I did the clutch wrong. Turned out the passenger side axle just needed to be pushed in like 1/4" more.

Here's an old thread, you can see about halfway down the page that the axle is almost flush with the case.

i tried and tried again i inspected the splined hole the diameter seems exact as the hole and feels the outer part cant go in all the way always seem to rest like this as is

Try rotating the assembly as you push/hammer in.

Shouldn't really need a hammer. Could be that the C-clip is out of round and causing the axle to not go all the way in.

Yea i got it to pop in i find the spline as i turned then i pop it in i cant seem to go further in . I posted a pic. I measured the inside diameter of the hole seems same as the hole not bigger. I used a Extension and marked it how far it can go in the hole it hits the middle diff rod

i put it side by side the shaft part.
it seems same and bottoms out is it normal? looks ok bc i cant go further in the hole is not that big for all it to go inside

marked ed how deep the hole goes seems to bottom out as that part

the hole length is same as the shaft measured with the extension ive marked to

Did you replace that axle seal? It looks too large. Try removing it and then slide the axle in.

Reference picture;

Did you verify 100% for sure that all the dimensions/spline count on the inner cup are the exact same? I still think that seal is incorrect, did you try removing it and sliding the axle into place?

Note I figured out the problem. I didnt have alot time to work on this car Esp bc i work every day n lucky i have time on it. finally was thinking it might have been the seal itself. I ordered a new seal from napa and got it dropped off. The new seal looks way better and closer to oem replacement part. The first seal ive installed on the car the parts people told me its legit. I removed the first Seal and see seated its the wrong seal all along. I installed the new seal correct seal and It Easily went in locked and its now good. shaft fits all the way in Finally!!!

Glad it's resolved, I knew that seal looked strange!
