Default Vibration Every 2 Seconds

Hello All,

First time posting here, I have a 2008 Honda Accord 2.4 LX. First off I am not a mechanic but like most here I have done enough work to not be completely stupid, just dangerous.

Recently I have had an issue where my car, at around 50-60mph, will shake almost like an unbalanced wheel, but the shaking will pulsate on and off every 2 seconds or so. At first it felt like I had a bad balanced wheel but they have been all balanced and checked recently with no issues. I also did the turn test to see if maybe I had a wheel bearing fail and no changes. My mind did go to maybe the motor being under load because I had the heat on. My A/C compressor will kick on and off more then normal when at idle but not enough to shake a car and myself. As I got about 10 miles away from home, the vibration got less and less which makes me more confused. This has never happened before. I even recently changed all the brake rotors and brake pads as well.

Could a compressor or motor really cause a vibration this bad and if so would it get less and less as time when on?

Any help would be great.

Yes something in the drive belt assembly could cause a vibration. I would also have your CV axles checked as those can cause odd vibrations especially under acceleration/braking any transitional movements. Does the A/C blow cold consistently? If there's an issue like low refrigerant charge the compressor will cycle on and off rapidly as it's unable to build pressure without an adequate refrigerant charge. Are there any noises from the engine bay? A component driven off the drive belt like P/S pump, A/C compressor even the water pump or idler pulley and tensioner can cause odd issues if they're worn out it's difficult for the engine to turn said components.. I'd start with checking the axles and drive belt assy. Easiest way is to remove the belt or have a mechanic do it and spin all your pulleys by hand to make sure nothing has a bad bearing/wear preventing it from turning freely.

Thanks for the tip.

I will check the compressor and belt assembly. For a bit my A/C would not be consistent with blowing cold air. I thought originally it was a fuse issue which I replaced and thought it took care of it. Problem is, it used to be my wifes car and now is mine so im playing catch up with issues.

As for the CV Axles, wouldnt it be a consistent shake if that was the issue? I am just cautious because it was a cyclical issue and not a constant vibration.

It could also be a transmission torque converter issue as well, but you didn't state if this was an auto

It is an auto. Awhile back I had some slippage and shuttering at about 30mph while at about 2000RPM but that problem went away with a tranny fluid change. The same problem may be back but now at 60MPH?

Anyone ever used Lubegard Instant Shudder Fix?

You'll probably need to drain and fill it about 2 more times to really get out that old fluid. Also make sure you're checking the fluid per FSM.

I own Accord 2014 sport 2.4 cvt. I love my honda, but I have one issue with it. extremely only in D and with depressed break pedal (car is stoped) it has a little uncomfortable vibration. I have changed all 5 mounts, spark plugs, cleaned throttle body and I still have this issue. yesterday I have found that the problem is in low Rpm 580-600 which happens only in D (for example on red light when car is stoped). normal rpm is 650-750 which my car keeps in R , in P in N but in D and in S the rpm goes down from 720 to 580-600 and starts the vibration (it naturally that on this rpm it will be) I thought that when heating is on also there is no vibration but I noticed that during the heating the fan periodically turns on and off, so when it turns on the rpm goes normal 650-750 mostly 720 and there is no vibration but as long as fan is off the rpm goes down to 580-600 and again starts vibration. So rpm goes normal not because of heating is on, it goes normal because the fan is turning on. also would like to admit that when I turn the light on also rpm goes normal and there is zero vibration. Now I know that the problem comes from low rpm when the cvt is in D and S. I also checked the cvt and it works fine.also Also I have measured the volts in P in N and R without turned light and heating is 12.2v -12.3v in D it is 11.9v -12.150v. with turned on lights 14.2v
