Hi I just bought a 98 crv auto rt4wd
270k on chassis and engine I believe it’s original cluster
anyway unknown if transmission flush has been done
want to do it for assured maintenance thing
the transmission doesn’t slip or anything drives fine. Little lag 3rd to 4rd but it goes
my question is I want to change it
I googled and there’s so many different methods into doing it
1 is drain > insert 3 quart Honda oem fluid done
1 is drain > insert 3 quart. > drive 10 miles> drain and refill 3 quart > drive 10 miles > drain refil 3 quart > drive 10 mile > drain and refill 3 quart > done
aka 12 quarts totally used
is there other ways?
which way should I be doing just 1x3 quart
or use up 12 quart

Hi guys
so question
its starting to slip 3rd gear / 4th gear sometimes not all the time. It’ll catch itself and then go back to driving normal
is it wise to drain and refill transmission fluid ?
thanks I went to Oem Honda bought 3 quart Oem Honda fluid and drain flush
previous owner filled in 3.5-4.5 quarts and there was grey gunk on the drain plug
anyway took it around the block and shifted cool
gonna test drive on freeway and test if it helped my problem
if not time to find new transmission or sell the car

Generally, if a transmission has problems to begin with (slipping) flushing it will make things worse. If you still have your mind on changing the fluid, just do a drain and fill (the 1x3 method) and I would add some sort of transmission additive - I’ve heard Lucas is good. But it’s just a band aid, you’ll have to rebuild the trans eventually.
