98 Integra LS Rear Hatch Latch
I'm not doing very well with the search engine.
The rear hatch will not open. This among a long list of issues I'm having to deal with on this car. When I flip the lever under the lip outside I hear an electric motor running until I turn it back off. Hatch will not open. When I bought the car a few weeks ago, the guy climbed in over the back seat with a screw driver and did something to pop the latch. I climbed back there yesterday to have a look and I can't see where he did that with the screw driver. The inside back cover is off and laying in the back.
How can I get the hatch open with the screw driver, and what do I need to replace/fix to get this latch working again????????
Thanks in advance for any advice as I'm working other stuff. I'm replacing the timing belt, waterpump and adjusting the valve lash this weekend.
Adding to this, my ignition key will not turn the lock at the rear hatch. Should I have 2 keys????? Did the car come with 2 keys?????

Likely the ignition and rear hatch aren't the same. Likely the ignition switch was replaced t one point. I'm betting the key to the ignition isn't the same to unlock the doors too.
As for the rear latch, the P/O likely pried the latch to open. Have a replacement handy once you're able to open it.

Ignition key unlocks doors. Don't have a keyless entry fob, but I bet this car has keyless entry. Something else I need to explore. But the ignition key will not turn the hatch lock in the back.
While on the subject, how can you determine if this car has keyless entry?

When you put the key in the hatch turn the key and move the lever at the same time it should open the hatch. I have to do this on my 99 integra to open the hatch, you cant just move the lever and open the hatch you need to turn the key at the same time. I'm not sure if this is due to damage or just the design but I have a feeling the lock actuator is malfunctioning.

get them all re-keyed to one key....I did that for my tacoma because the PO only gave me one key, seemed fishy so I took all the cylinders and the ignition to a locksmith. Cost me about 100, can't remember but it def wasn't much. Gonna do the same for the civic.
OK folks, I went to a knowledgeable locksmith here in town. As it turns out, the only key I got with the car was the "Valet" key. Unknown to me the Valet key works in every lock except the trunk/hatch. He made me a couple of keys and now I can open the hatch using a key.
I still don't understand what the lever under the hatch lid does and what to do about the electric motor that turns on and just runs not doing anything when you flip that lever to the left. What is that electric motor deal supposed to do?
At least I can now get in the back of the car using just a key.

It opens the hatch without the use of the key . If it doesn't work, the actuator has probably failed. It's very common. It can be repaired using the internal parts from a crv for much cheaper than the Acura part number.
What would be a quick source for the crv part? Aftermarket or Dealer?
