Default Will an non-operating EGR valve cause a stumble on accelerating?

Hi, I have a '93 EX, F22A6, 5 speed manual, that stumbles when the throttle opens, and is giving the #12 egr CEL. It has been giving that code months before the stumbling started. I've followed the diagnosic procedure and found the control solenoid isn't sending vacuum to the egr valve. The engine dies if I put a vacuum straight to the egr valve so the valve itself works. I've cleaned the egr ports in the intake manifold. The car vibrates considerably at idle @700 rpm, but if you touch the gas pedal enough to move it to 1000 rpm the vibrations disappear. Could replacing the control solenoid with one off of ebay help with the stumbling?

Sounds more like an ignition problem, the EGR valve is operated only at certain times, mainly when up to speed and cruising with light throttle. Its there to reduce the chance for detonation by diluting the intake charge with inert exhaust gases. The EGR valve isn't operated at idle so I doubt this is your problem. I would check the condition of your distributor cap contacts and the condition of your distributor rotor as well as spark plug wires and plugs.

Well, that rules out the egr system. I'll make another post with more details about the stumbling problem later. Thanks.

If you haven't done so, you should clear the codes and see what, if any, pop back into the computer.

How many miles on your 1993?

The stumbling and shaking could be a lot of things. I.e, Bad motor mount(s), poor tire balancing (searching for grip upon takeoff), and the balance shaft belt could be loose. That last one would be indicated especially if the shaking also happens when idling.

A shaking the becomes a bucking, jerking thing, that greatly impacts driveability can also be the Oxygen Sensor not working right.
