Need to replace subframe on em1/ confused by part numbers
Hi
I need to replace my torn rear subframe on my em1. The part is discontinued everywhere online 65750-S02-A90ZZ.
The part number for hatches/non si coupes and sedans is 65750-S01-A00ZZ and available everywhere. My concern is it says not compatible with the SI Coupe. Why isn't this compatible? Why does the SI Coupe have it's own specific part number? Is there a difference?
Re: Need to replace subframe on em1/ confused by part numbers
If I remember correctly it has additional reinforcement from the factory, since the Si came with a rear sway bar, to prevent the sway bar from tearing the metal apart. Which is why a lot of after market larger rear sway bars come with a reinforcement plate that bolts in for the non Si models when you run a 24mm rear sway bar (for example).
You should be able to use a non-Si one without any issues, but it would probably be better to just find one for an Si, even if it is a used one.

Hi OP. I had to do this repair back in May. There is no difference in reinforcement between the Si and non Si subframes, just that the Si one had the welded nut mounting points for the sway bar. You have a couple of options.
- Source a used CTR one. This will be extra work since you will receive a floor cut and will have to remove the sheet metal from the replacement subframe before installing it on you car. This place has them in stock, I saw a couple of others while looking around too. https://jdmohiodirect.com/jdm-96-00-...-Rear-Subframe
- The standard one is still available. Honda has moved their inventory to a company called Vintage Parts Inc. in Wisconsin. I got mine from them via the Honda Employee Parts Counter, they would only ship to that parts counter so you may have to go through a dealer but give them a call. I don't know what the retail price would be, but expect about $250 for the part. https://www.vpartsinc.com/
- Put a subframe brace on the thing, unless you go the CTR subframe route. The EG subframes were hit or miss on survival but the EK ones were doomed. All of the extra body reinforcement on the ITR chassis was a direct response the body tearing during durability testing, so it is there for a good reason on those chassis.
- Grease your sway bar bushings and any other poly bushings in your setup! This is important. Those bushings need to pivot. Any torsion from binding is transferred straight into the subframe in directions that it simply cannot handle. Do not skip this step and keep in mind that it is a maintenance item that needs to be checked from time to time.
- I had a local hot rod shop do the repair, it wasn't awful and is a pretty straightforward job. Good luck!

Thank you. I just want to use the oem swaybar, the previous owner had a larger on swaybar which caused the problem. I didn't know it was a thing when I bought the car.
So to confirm I can actually use an EK subframe from a hatch? The only difference being welded nuts? That would be the most likely to find for me, being from Australia it is nearly impossible to find ek9 or em1 bits.
