Default K swap cost?

Hi
RecentlyI fuckup my D16Z6 on my Ej1 and I was thinking about a K swap. A friend told me it would cost around 7k - 8k but I think it would be done for more less than that. How much does a K swap cost right now?
Cheap but good, keeping a Good balance.
Or what do you guys recomend doing with my D engine?
It has a toast rod.

the engine/tranny can be had for under $2K. Add the cost of K-Pro ecu, wiring harness, motor mounts, axles, and other miscellaneous parts, it can be pricey. Less if you know how to wrench. If that's not the case, better pay up to have a shop or reputable person do the work.

If you are unfamiliar with swaps, you might want to look into doing a B-swap as your first.

Quality parts at typical market prices will cost what your friend said... 7-8K is not uncommon just for the parts, assuming you are talking about a 200+ HP "K" series engine. Labor by a shop would be extra. There is no such thing as cheap but good. Since your "D" has a rod hanging out of it, I recommend you take it to the scrap yard for lunch money.

Now if NVTurbo is suggesting you can get a K20A2/Z1/Z3 and a 6-speed transmission from a reputable vendor for $2000, I need his connection. Stolen parts on Craig's List or FB... maybe. Or, maybe he is suggesting a 160 HP "K" and a less desirable 5-speed trans for $2000... and that makes more sense. But WHY ??? A GSR swap will make more power stock and will be less money and easier to install.

Hit up JMills Tuning in Franklin NC. He has that combo if you're interested. From what I recall, it's from a RSX Type S.

Just a "one-time" deal or do they have a steady stream of them ???

Not 100% sure what his intentions are. From what I know, he is starting to sell used cars so that likely wont' be the last time he has some motor/tranny for sale.

8k is pretty steep, but it is what it is.

who ever is doing the work should be able to give you an exact, you'll need to remember that you're going to run in to additional issues that require additional funds

I will have to look them up... thank you for the recommendation NVturbo.

NO labor... this is just the bare bones parts. If you do the work yourself, this is what you are likely to pay. If it is above your technical capabilities... then you must pay additional money for a competent shop to do the work for you.

Also, if you want to keep A/C or P/S and/or upgrade other items like a clutch, cat-back exhaust or freshen-up parts like the timing chain, tensioner and guides... the price will go up as well.

Unless you find a crazy deal on a wrecked RSX or something, your prices will be very near what these fellows have said.

Like I was told by a particular company that is intimately familiar with these swaps, the key is finding a good donor vehicle.

This is true... but with the savings comes additional labor in removing the engine/trans/wiring/ECU etc. and the logistics of storing another car in your driveway while this process transpires (My HOA wouldn't allow this level of mechanical work in my driveway) as well as dealing with disposing of whatever remains when you have removed your parts.
