Default SRS Light on

Hello,
I have a 1998 Civic Cx.
The SRS light is on and when I get the code 2-2, which is a fault with the passenger air bag.
Problem is that I do not have a passenger air bag installed.
I can reset the SRS light by jumpering the yellow reset port, but the code returns instantly.
Do I need to get a new SRS coomputer module or get it repaired?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

I would suspect the answer is yes.

More background information would be helpful.

Have you had the car since new or did you buy it like it is now? Or did you buy it used, no srs light and it came on recently?

Thank you for the reply.
It was my mother in laws car since new, and I have recently acquired it. Only 68 000km on the odometer. No accidents.
The light came on suddenly about 6 months ago one day out of the blue.
The car runs great, no oil burning, no leaks of any kind.
All maintenance has been done as per the book.

This additional information confirms no modifications or user changes done to the car.
This would indicate the SRS control unit has gone bad.

Thank you for confirming what I thought was wrong. Does anybody know if these can be repaired or where I can get a working one? I am in central Alberta.
What do I have to look for when getting a working one? Exact part number? is there any year crossovers? Does it have to come from a hatchback or will one from a sedan work?

Does anything else misbehave? I only ask because I had my SRS light come on......and not many days later other gauges and lights came on.....I checked the battery, noticed it was a little low, and then finally the battery light came on a few days after that. It was the alternator that got replaced and fixed all errors. Just a thought to check over the car first before looking for an SRS unit.

No, nothing else is wrong with the vehicle. The battery is at 12.60V and when charging the alternator puts out 14.70V at the battery. (just used a digital multimeter to check)
It has been like this for about 6 months. It was the MIL's car and I just got it from her. Fixing it up for my son, for his first car.

Just an update.
Since there is no actual air bag on the passenger side, a dummy resistor is put in its place to mimic the air bag.
The resistor was reading high (5.6 ohms), when it should be reading around 2 ohms. Located right beside the SRS module.
I got another resistor from honda (#32146-SV4-013), installed it, reset the SRS module, and now it functions properly!
(see page 24-6 of the service manual)
Thank you everybody for your input, I hope this information can help someone else in a similar situation.
