Radiator fans never turn on
I have a 2007 Pilot with the J35A9. The radiator fan NEVER turns on. Hot weather, idling for over an hour... still nothing. The coolant temp sensor is still reporting average temps and appears to be functioning correctly. Temp remains steady. Under the hood, everything is extremely hot. Can barely pop the hood because the latch is hot enough to fry an egg to a crisp. Is this normal?
No, the fans never come on and miraculously the temp gauge never even reaches the middle. Scanner shows temp rise normally after turned on and it remains steady. I checked that the fan relay was working. I didn't actually probe the ports in the relay box to see if the relay was getting a signal at any time. I was thinking that perhaps the thermostat was stuck open and getting constant flow thru the radiator and maybe passive cooling is keeping it reasonably cool. Not sure yet but it hasn't proved problematic enough yet to dive into any farther. I thought it was strange enough to ask.
Check the fan switch on the radiator by shorting the plug. If the fans come on, then the switch is the problem. Otherwise jump each of the fans from the battery and see if the motors run. It is an electrical problem, so start tracing where the 12V power or ground is missing.
There is no fan switch or ECT sensor on the radiator of a 2007 Pilot. The PCM provides ground to the respective fan control relay coil and A/C condenser fan relay coil. ECT sensor 1 and ECT sensor 2 provides the input signals to the PCM.
