Default Car wont stop overheating

I was driving home and coolant sprayed from under my hood all over windshield. Looked under hood and radiator had cracked. Thinking the radiator was just old I went and got another one. Put it in and filled it up. Car is still overheating. Fan does not appear to be kicking on and the wires arent getting 12v so I dont think the fan motor is out. Checked all fuses. Is the thermostat bad? Whatever is wrong caused my radiator to crack in the first place so I really need to figure out whats going on. Thanks.

thermostat wont cause the fan to not kick on.. sound like you could have a bad fan motor. or fan switch

i would say get a new OEM or close to oem thermostat.. and make sure all the air is bled out of the system..also try just hooking a + and - up to the fan itself to see if its working

I had a problem like this a week ago. My fan wasn't kicking on and it ended up being the fan relay (the top one in the relay box) under the hood. I just switched it with the defroster relay since I never use it. I wasted money on a honda thermostat when that wasn't the problem I also bought a new rad cap and I had to burp it like 3 times for it to stop overheating. Burping is very important.

Thermo

you should make sure you get all the air out too.

One time i filled up with coolant in a hurry and there was air in their and it would over heat on the freeway, but if the fan isn't getting any volts then i would look into the thermostat

The thermostat only opens and closes based on temperature to keep the engine at a optimum temp. there is another sensor that turns your fan on. check the fan relay and fan motor ground.

well, first off, the thermostat wont cause the fan NOT to come on, most likely cause is fan relay. next, in most cases when the thermostat is bad the car will heat up very suddenly, if it heats up normally but overheats while sitting idle for a period of time its most likely because the fan isnt kicking on so it doesnt cool the coolant in the radiator.

It was the Thermostat lol. I have never even seen my fan kick on anyways. My car hardly ever gets that hot. I was just thinking maybe that was it. Regardless it doesnt overheat anymore. I might get a new fan relay anyways. Thanks for the help.

IF YOUR fan doesnt kick on then you have a problem, regardless if it overheats or not.
