Yes I already searched but couldn't find any info on this. With all these posts I've been seeing about ignition switches going bad, made me think about my 96 Civic HX. Looks like Honda wants to only sell the COMPLETE key cylinder with the ignition switch, not the switch by itself. I'm doing the research in case my ignition switch starts to have problems.

Anyone know what the direct Honda part number of just the ignition switch? Odd you'd have to buy the whole thing!

 

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you are having problems with the key moving in the cylinder you need to use dry graphite lube that you buy in a tube from oreillys

thanks guys.. what I'm asking is the ignition switch at the end of the entire lock/key assembly can be replaced separately. I was asking if anyone knew that Honda part number for the ignition switch minus the entire assembly.. Honda was saying you have to buy the entire assembly just to get the ignition switch.

I know aftermarket is available but was wanting genuine Honda. And ebay, yup saw them.. but asking for the Honda part number.. If it doesn't exist separately, that's cool too, I just couldn't find anything for that.

OP, so you are suggesting that at some point, you believe that the electronic portion of the switch was available individually as opposed to the complete ignition switch assembly that is listed in the system now ??? I personally do not remember that to have ever been the case... but I could be wrong.

 

yes there was a time when the 98-2000 civic was recalled/tsb'd for ignition switch defects. They changed the design and what I remember there was a replacement starter switch part available for that campaign. Was simply asking if anyone knew of the switch part number if it was still available. Looks like it's not available at all anymore, have to buy the entire assembly.

Thanks for everyone's input, it verified what I had found.. nothing available short of ebay. I did find one ignition switch at NAPA, but was lacking the third wire harness connection..
