Hi all looking for advice, started having issues with my 96 civic coupe a few days ago when It started to cut out whilst driving. Now position one and two don't do anything 3rd position the car starts, but when the key returns to position 2 it stalls. I disconnected the ignition switch where i managed to start it with a screwdriver. But if the switch moves a certain way it cuts out. Could it possibly be
the relay? If so where would this be located? Don't want to go and buy a new switch of it's not that
Thanks !!
Pretty common problem with these old civics. The snap back of the key return pushes the key past the on position and car stalls. Vibration lets the switch move past the on position and the car stalls.
If the 96-00 is anything like the 92-95, there is a difference in the automatic versus manual switch. If you go to the salvage yard to get one, get the same one as your transmission type. The automatic has an extra little switch used for the key lockout of the gear shifter that the manual transmission switch does not have.
