Default metal coolant pipe behind thermostat

Hi all.
I’m swapping a D17A2 for a JDM D17a. Im trying to install the missing oil temp sensor(just below the VTEC solenoid) but the hard metal coolant pipe that runs from the backside of the thermostat around the rear of the engine is in the way. See pic

I was able to disconnect the pipe and move it on my old engine.

But I’m worried that moving the pipe will ruin the seal at the thermostat. It feels like there is a rubber seal in there, but I’m still concerned. Any advice would be welcome.

thanks, Terry
