1996 type S 2.2 SOHC Honda Prelude OBD1 4th gen need help with engine
So I want to find a faster engine for my car something with a lot of hp but not to expensive if you guys could help me out on what kind of engine and what year would fit into my 96 prelude.
See I thought that too and someone mentioned that a k20 would be a good one but will it fit and what transmission would be good with it? And also what year?
There is plenty of documentation on pretty much any swap into a 4/5G Prelude, please don't expect to be spoon fed the information. If you have to ask us something so basic, a K-swap is too involved.

An H22 swap will be much simpler (and cheaper) than a K swap, fyi.
That said, if your car is truly a 1996, verify that it is in fact an OBD1 car, as 1996 should be OBD2.

So my car was made in 12 of 95 and was sold as a 96 and I did a lot of digging it is in fact a OBD1 not OBD2 like I was told
Should be a nice bump in power for you. Make sure to do all the recommended maintenance while you have the engine out, and it should treat you well.
OP, what market is your Prelude from ??? Your profile shows no location and you have not been specific in your post as to where you reside... so when you state that your vehicle was manufactured in 12/95 as a 1996 Model, most who see this post live in the US and that means that the ECU plugs are OBD-2A style. And yet, you state that you are confident that it is actually OBD-1. This means one of two things: You are either from another Country or you are simply incorrect about the ECU plugs.
Would you please post a photo of the ECU plugs and we can clear this up...

I do live in the US too and have found three different places where the OBD2 port would be like under the ash tray or under the carpet on the passenger side or under the driver side steering wheel and I even took apart my whole center console where my shift **** is my stereo everything and there is no obd2 port anywhere at all so unless you can give me another idea I'm sticking to my car being obd 1
Unless maybe whoever had it before me took the obd 2 port out Wich would be really stupid but you never know with some people out there let me run my vin numbers and I'll get back to you guys but please feel free to give me more places to look for it other then where I've already looked
Sometimes the OBD-2 service ports get pushed out of the metal bracket that they are snapped into, so you should look in the places that you have been looking and see if there is an open space the shape of the diagnostic port plug in a plain steel bracket. Also, you haven't posted pictures of the ECU plugs like I have asked... being able to identify those in a US car will definitively confirm the existence of the OBD-2 diagnostic port or not... regardless of what you can find or not.
you can put ANY motor in ANY car you want if you have the money and the fabrication means, that being said a k series motor will only fit into your 4g prelude using conversion motor mounts, any transmission could bolt up using an adapter plate or spacers the easiest solution by far would be to build a h22 however that’s far from the cheapest and most reliable, it’s arguably the fastest though
