Had a no start issue. Checked everything. Bought (trash aparently) ebay dizzy car started, yay! Finish thousand other things needed with suspension, radiator, etc. Now I’m back to no start after only 8mi first drive and 20min idle time. Have fuel but spark was super weak. Ready to buy a real distributor, what’s a top quality one? Noticed today the pins are crooked as hell in this junk cap. Don’t know how 2 of the cylinders were even firing across this huge gap on 2 of them.
Not 100% sure on an LS, but based on my experience with aftermarket distributors, they're all crap. OEM or nothing in my opinion. If you can find a remanufactured OEM, go with that. Otherwise find a used one and fix it up yourself if need be. LS version should be fairly easy to find.
Damn, seems like it’ll be hard to find oem. I was hoping there would be a good afternaket. I have seen some that say they are new not reman. Swear this car is bleeding me dry.
If you like to be stranded any of the aftermarket will do. If not oem. I have rich porter failures as my emergency roadside kits. They warranty them really well but they aren't worth putting back in the car unless it's a emergency. They have a saying the thrifty one pays twice. I paid twice with aftermarket distributors and never again. I have never been stranded in a Honda except 2 aftermarket distributor failures, same car same replacement. The other was a vato zone Chinese axle separating at 75 mph with about 50 miles .
Napa sold me my last OEM rebuilt version, check with them. LS shouldn't be too bad, try and find a GSR OBD1 version
Rich porter sold out(company is basically gone) I think it was spectrum or something like that that bought them and they don't make the "race" versions of distributors anymore....so it's the same aftermarket crap you get anywhere else.
I didn't know you could get new oem. A buddy made a good suggestion, found a low mi. used oem for $150. I'm gonna check the igniter on the junk distributor I have and replace it if it's bad to just have as a back-up. Would suck real bad to travel to a time attack, spend $$$ on entry fee only to break down from the dizzy. Probably go with a cop setup later for a little more reliability. Thanks for the help.
The car I just bought 92 civic hatch with b16 has an aftermarket distributor and it was breaking up at higher rpm. After research, I'm just going to replace the 2 main components - the coil and the igniter, with better quality units. For the coil I bought an Accel direct replacement for $53, and it's best to buy the Hitachi or NEC igniters... I picked up this Hitachi unit brand new on Amazon for $61. It's probably also worth replacing the exter armoring and the internal oil seal while you're at it for an extra $15. So to $130 on top of the cost for the remanufactured distributor you should have a reliable distributor....or so I hope. Lol.
Also.... buy new cap and rotor with BRASS contacts...and you should be good for a while.

Cool, Thanks for the info. I'm gonna get the igniter now.
