Default Steering wheel restoration

A new one costs >$500, and restorations/custom modifications can cost higher. So this isn’t a price discussion. Has anyone had their steering wheel restored? Or resto-modified? If so, pics please!

go with aftermarket. LOL

I have a "PERSONAL" leather steering wheel with "LUISI" steering hub on mine. If you want to stay with OEM/Genuine Honda, go with a S2000 steering wheel.

I am sure you can find a shop who is capable. It's probably cheaper to find a decent used wheel. There's a lot of posts about shops not even willing to do steering wheels.

Not all of us want to remove safety equipment, I get it.

S2000 with S2000 airbag is your best bet. Needs to be a pre-2005 airbag to work correctly, but any wheel will work.

Also, RSX, EP3, and first gen Insight wheel are the same design but different materials. They are all options. Cruise is easy to adapt as well. I was able to source an RSX cruise switch, all i had to do was unsolder the plug from the board and replace it with the one off of my stock EK wheel.

Thanks, spAdam. It’s an EK. I think 94 Civic Si was asking about the EG info because that’s what he’s got.

I really like how the S2000 steering wheels look!

Wasnt there an issue with the air bags from the EP3’s or RSX’s being 2 stage deployment? I thought I read that somewhere before.

Yeah, it's in my previous post. Needs to be an AP1 bag.

If you like the stock steering wheel, a em1 is leather wrapped and grey.

ok, so I bought this 1998 civic with a really messed up steering wheel, that thing was missing a chunk right in the top center section. I didn’t afford a new one , and the after market is too ....anyway, I decided to fix my existing steering wheel. Here is how :
First I went to Home Depot and got rubbery foam pipe insulation, 4 pieces for 9 dollars. I only needed one but it comes with 4. The size is 1/2 inch inside diameter x 4 foot
Next you need to cut that foam pipe insulation long way with a sharp blade, and then another cut next to it so you make that insulation less thick. Get it? You will when you see the picks.
Second step cut the foam off the steering wheel with the same sharp blade, for the length you need. I figured it was messed up anyway.
Then cut the foam you prepared already to line up with the uncovered section of the steering wheel, put it on and glue it with crazy glue, to stick to the metal rod and to close the ends.
Wait 5 minutes and put a steering wheel cover on top, for $14 from Walmart. That’s it

This is with the foam insulation on, before the steering wheel cover

Finished product

That’s the pipe insulation from Home Depot, 1/2” ID
