Infamous code 91 (P0453) fuel tank pressure sensor
Hey what's up everyone, so ive searched and searched and searched all theae honda tech articles regaurding this issue. Heres where i am at
Ive got a 96 civic dx, d16y7 5speed. With a p2e ecu. Looking at my ecu, i have no green wire at spot D15. But when i get under my car at the front left od the gas tank under a plastic cover ive got a unit with 2 lines running to it. Is this the ftp sensor but its just not wired in? Is my ecu looking for one and i dont have one? What ecu can i swap in so its not looking for the evap system. I know this is a popular question, just havent found the answer yet. Thanks everyone, just have to pass emissions (Az) in a few days. Just got the car a few days ago

Reason: Spelling
Ah man so sorry for the confusion on code 91 vs p0543.. learned that myself just now.
I am not really sure as to what happened. I huess that would be a possible cause? I snapped a few pictrues ill post. The harness plugging into the ecu does not have the green wire on D port( cant remember what pin position off top of my head). But on the front left underside of my tank i have what may be a sensor. Just looking for a possible fix. Maybe getting a 96dx ecu?? D CONNECTOR OF ECU HARNESS Possible ftp sensor? D CONNECTOR from Ecu shoing missing green wire at bottom position
Is there anyway i can tell the difference between the two just referencing part numbers or something?
Not sure. You may need to contact Honda.
However, you can infer the scenario I proposed based on the fact that the stock P2E ECU for your car would NEVER throw code P0453 and only the P2E ECU from a 97 Civic LX WOULD.
If you study the service manual diagrams that I posted, you would also come to the same conclusion that I did.
I dont see it, but i believe you.. if you could explain your reasoning id appreciate it! I had a feeling it was the wrong ecu in there. Ill call honda and ask. I really appreciate all the help!
At the same time, start eBay shopping for the best price on an OBD2a P2E ECU from any 96 Civic or from a 97 Civic DX or CX.
The full explanation is found in the diagrams I posted. If you can't understand the diagrams, then you would still be taking my word for it because you won't understand my explanation either.
