Wheel bearing problem
Yesterday I replaced the front passenger side wheel bearing and hub assembly on my 2000 civic ex, now when driving I hear a sound coming from that side of the car that only gets louder with speed, it sounds as if some metal is rubbing or wobbling but I cant figure out what it could be, as I said it only gets louder with speed, and occasionally it will stop or quiet down for a few seconds and then pick back up, the noise starts once I get rolling but when the car is stopped its silent, any suggestions or ideas?
how did you replace the bearing? Its important that the bearing goes wit equal pressure applied and that the hub gets pressed in with something supporting the inner part of the bearing.
Truthfully I only had a broad idea of how to replace the bearing and hub which resulted in the noise I'm sure, I used a bearing press kit and with a socket wrench I pressed the bearing onto the car instead of the hub itself, after I tried to hammer the hub into the bearing but I was unsuccessful, the hub came off and with it the outer race of the new bearing, my neighbor walked over and offered to help by using a metal punch and hammer to push the outer race onto the new hub, then we hammered the hub into the bearing on the car, we got it fitted well it seemed and I couldn't feel any play in the new hub
