6th Gear Options/Opinions
Ive been looking into a shorter 6th gear for my setup. Currently its a 4.764 FD with a .659 6th. I am looking at a .78 6th for the car in the NA configuration. I like the 1-5 stack that is currently in the car but the more the car becomes mainly track driven, the more I want a shorter 6th gear. I think it would really benefit lap times @ VIR as I would be in the power band more so on the straights. A .78 would net me 159.55 mph limited at 8300 rpm. I don't see the car getting anywhere near that number with the current power. I'm looking at just swapping in a factory JDM DC5 ITR 6th gear set or potentially a gearX 6th. Any thoughts or recommendations?
the H1 cars are probably all using the JDM 6th gear. they have limited options due to rules.
My Recommendation is: a 5.1 FD and the JDM 6th. if you keep the dorky 16 inch tire or if you go to the 255/40/17 I recommend.
This will ensure you are a 3/4/5/6 user and keep you out of 2nd gear.
you need to go to read this... EJ2 Track Rat: Budget Transmission Part 2: How I Chose a Road Racing Final Drive ... basically the JDM 6th is a requirement, but I don't think your 4.7 is enough.

Sweet, thanks for the link and the recommendation on the 5.1 FD. I will probably get a set of 17x8s for next season, but Ill make the weirdos work for this year.
also... I can spend your money easier than I can spend mine. but I wouldn't worry about the 6th gear until you are settled on the FD, tire size, etc. when in doubt, don't worry about it because maxing your top speed (6th gear and FD) will only make you work hard for 2 turns at VIR... and there are +12 other corners to master.
see you this weekend... bring your home brew.

Haha it just bugs me shifting into 6th and falling flat, I wanna GO man! I have a bunch of work to do on the other 12 corners but I am really good at the straight parts =P
