Anybody else do valve seals with head on car? I bought the Ebay red tool and it don't work on our H single cam head bought the other tool and looks like too tight around springs to work. .... Anybody have any easy tips?
To remove the retainers, I use a socket with a magnet inside. Socket goes over the valve spring, tap it with a hammer and keeper/retainers pop out pretty easily. Getting them back on was a little bit of a pain. The way I do it is compress the springs down with a crowfoot wrench (or something similar like an O2 socket) by hand, then while compressing insert retainers.
Be sure you have either rope or air to keep the valves up while you're doing this.
make sure that you have the cylinders piston at top dead center before you start removing any of the retainer locks. It will help keep the valve from dropping the into the cylinder. That or hook an air compressor up to a spark plug adapter in order to use air to keep the valves closed.
