First overheating, now coolant leaking
Hello guys,
Never used these sites, so hope im posting in the right place. I have 98 Prelude H22a4 automatic 168,000 miles. About two weeks ago I replaced my
- Radiator (corroded, upper rad hose connector broke off whole. Plus old cap started failing.)
- Water pump/timing belt(Never replaced, so might as well)
- Ect sensors(one a few months back, the t-Stat housing one last week)
NOW my engine seems to not overheat anymore, but I feel that the radiator(aluminum) is getting very hot to the touch and as is the rest of the engine bay. Anyway today the coolant hoses that run to the iacv(which feel slightly soft but not busted) were apparently squirting coolant all under the hood well driving today.
So i guess next is to buy those hoses right? Im really just concerned my engine is not cooling properly thus causing hot pressurized coolant to seep or escape wherever it can. Is there anything I'm missing that could be causing these issues?
Please and thank you.

What caused the initial overheat? Sounds like everything was in pretty rough shape, so making sure all the hoses are good, the thermostat is opening right etc, and maybe check compression to make sure that you don't have a bad head gasket.
Thanks for the reply,
I also forgot to mention my t-stat was also replaced within the last year.
I honestly am not sure what the initial cause was. When I purchased all the replacement parts I had already assumed that the water pump or radiator had to be the culprit, but the old water pump didn't seem to be in any rough shape.
I will try compression test soon but feel that my head gasket should be holding up,only because I have no visible exhaust smoke or gunk in the oil, plus the car seems to run fine?
*I went out today to check the leaking hoses, it seems that the oem clamps that lock the hose in place is loose enough to forcefully spin around. Do these clamps weaken enough to the point of failiure? Should that much pressure build up there?

Hi, Welcome to the forum!
The leaks in the hoses could allow air into the system which will allow it to overheat.. Make sure you bleed the system properly after to eliminate any and all air from the system. The hose clamps may loose their tension overtime so it wouldn't hurt to replace those while you are replacing those hoses.
Once the engine is to operating temperature, the cooling system, any and all parts of the coolant will be under-pressure.

Check the stupid heater control valve. Its located near firewall just follow the smaller heater hoses. I was having similar issue and low and behold that was the culprit. Also make sure you bled the air out at both the bleeder at Tstat and run the heater while filling. Allso check your reservoir mine was loaded with some gunk that was getting back into radiator. Its usually something small that gets overlooked that causes issues.
