Default Troubleshooting: connecting rod has side-to-side movement.

I just took my engine apart and noticed each rod had play going side to side. the bearings werent in great condition but i dont think anywhere destroyed. the tab on them was pushed in a little but that was about it. but the play in the was going left and right not up and down which i see a lot of spun bearings result in. theyre eagle rods on a GSR crank. could it have had the wrong bearings in it?
