Default How to test OEM power door lock actuator

So I'm looking to add OEM power door locks to my EG. (Ok it;s really an EH) anyway, I pulled one and got home to test it. 2 wires, should be 12v to one, ground to the other, reverse to get the opposite movement. No joy. There's a small click and a very small jerk but not enough movement to unlock/lock the door. Pulled another thinking the first was bad and the same result. I'm guessing the Power Door Control Module is needed to make these actuators work?? Anyone?

Did you run power and ground wires directly from the battery to the unplugged actuator? If so, the actuators are bad, assuming the battery is fully charged.

I pulled these from the junk yard so I didn't have them in the car. I did run pos and neg from a 12v power supply directly. I have used aftermarket actuators and they always work with a single pos and neg connection.
