Thief damaged my hatch key cylinder, can I swap out the broken bits?
Hey all,
Have any of you ever swapped out the lock cylinder in the hatch? The thief basically destroyed the whole lock cylinder so I think a screwdriver can just turn the whole thing. If I were to buy a new cylinder, would I be able to re-key the cylinder to my current key?
Thanks in advance!
I do not believe so, you can however, find a part-out and take all the locks/ignition to match. If you have a newer teg you might need to pay someone to get your ignition key attached to your computer though. Or just have a lock key and an ignition key
You can replace it from a junked integra but you will need the key from that car and or one made and you will just use a separate key to open the hatch, Theres lock smiths who have blank Honda keys and can make you a key in less than 10 mins right there at the car,.
you can code a donor/new cylinder to your car.
you may be able to find the code on the disk are not to damaged, or get the code from a dealership.
the small 'disk' inside the thumbler are coded , i believe ist 1 to 6. look online on oem part store in key cylinder kit tab 74834-SH3-305 for #1

There's no need to change all of your locks out. I believe you can buy all of the individual tumblers from Honda for your car and then swap them into a lock that you source from a salvage yard or somewhere.
You can't buy them from Honda anymore, you have to salvage the plates from junked cars to rebuild your own. A locksmith can also do this.

This is incorrect. A simple parts look up will tell you this. While the entire cylinder kits are discontinued, The individual tumblers can still be bought brand new. So you just buy the tumblers that you need for your specific key and install them into a donor cylinder kit sourced elsewhere. And there you have it, a remake of the original trunk lock. No need to change them all out and get a new key. It's part # 06721-SH3-415. It's a key tumbler repair kit

Long story short, any locksmith with the Honda set can re-key the tumblers to match an existing key. More importantly, buying the tumbler kit does not make you a locksmith

I have also gone another route for a Civic, and bought and entire set of locks with keys right here on H-T, for less than $100.
