Default Cassette player problem

2000 honda crv se double din 2tm0

When i play a cassete tape it will play for a few seconds then stop, make a few short mechanical sounds then continue playing , it will repeat stoping and playing. It is not the tape it does this to all tapes. It is not flipping. What could be wrong with it, what can i do? I tried cleaning with isopropyl alchohol and a cotton swab. Im prepared to take it out for inspection.

The reason #1 would be a tired and stretched belt or worn tire on a pulley.

Are you planning to tackle the repair yourself?

Then extract the unit from the car and take it apart carefully, then rig it to a 12V source (mind the fuse!) and try to play a tape. See what is happening and if you have a slipping belt/tire, let me know. I sell electronic parts and can help you with a replacement if I have the correct size. If I do not, we can further look into the symptoms. If the problem is in a tire, it can be turned inside out or sanded slightly or both. Also you can put some tape under the tire to expand it slightly. Belts just stretch and have to be replaced. I have tons of them, so if you end up needing a belt, I'll need to know the size. Then just PM me your address and I'll mail you one if I have it.

Glad I was able to help! Was the old belt just stretched, or did it "melt" into gummy state like some cheaper ones do?
