Huge heavy bar behind front seats ?
Hey guys , ibv been doing the dry ice , holesaw , tear out routine we all know too well , on a 98 civic hatch.my question is after doing the past week of weight reductions iv come to the heavy metal bar behind the front seats that appears to be a brace ,can i remove it ? Or is it sttiopping chassis flex ?
Iv searched and found very little on it , the best i can come up with is that its a side impact beam .wouldnt do much in that dept.im going for the lightest i can get all motor k so every bit counts.the car is gonna see drag strip and be a nice day summer car only.any input appreciated.

If drag racing, that kind of side impact isn't very likely even in a roll situation or so I would think. Good point though, if it's all all out drag car, it should be caged anyway which far outweighs the light weight crash bar.

It is a side impact crash beam. I don't recall what year it was added. There was mention of the earlier years not passing the future side impact standards, which are now past standards on one of the old motor trend first drives on either a dc or civic drive. They both eventually got the bar.
That safety bar behind the seats on the floor boards was added in 1997 for the civic. It should definitely stay there. but hey that's just my opinion..
