Default Questing about rebuilding a d16y8?

So I am thinking about buying a blown it old Honda Civic that is at least 1996 or newer. I was wondering do I have to drop the engine to actually rebuild is it pistons and rods and bearings do I have pull the engine out or is there a way to do with the engine still in the chasie? I was just wondering thank you. And if you have any tips please let me know.

Pull the engine and put it on a stand. You won't know what you are up against until you tear down the motor and make the many required micrometer and dial gauge measurements on the block and head.

These engines are easy to remove in just a few hours.

So true. I now remove the engine and transmission as a unit when I need to replace the clutch on my Civic. Thanks Honda!

and you don't even need to use a cherry picker to remove/re-install the engine. Just 2 good floor jacks, proper tools and knowledge.
