Is there a RWD transmissions that fits onto any of the 4 cyclinder honda engines? (Other than s2000 drivetrain as they are too expensive)
Can one be modified to fit realtively easily? ie. not making new bellhousings or anything like that.

I don't avoid things just because they are not cheap/easy/reasonable - otherwise my car would be boring like most other cars.
I'm looking into a RWD honda engine for a non-honda car. I have no desire to make a bellhousing or any adaptor plates or anything. If that is the only way then I will just use a different engine.
So does anybody know if it's possible without making adaptors or bellhousings?

there are VERY few RWD hondas (s2000, nsx) and obtaining a drivetrain from one is going to cost a GRIP

 

its been done before...i have a book called honda/acura performance that has pics of several B motors mounted in an RWD drivetrain, of course they are full race, tube chassis cars

which acura/honda performance book? I have all the Published Books that are available and have yet to see where they speak of full blow race civic/integra chasis honda's runnng RWD setup...yes there are now drag rwd honda's but top fuel is really the only one to make one that can actually be driven on the street from what I've seen.. but this is in japan and they have money and the people for R&D it can be done but it takes money to do this kinda of conversion.. just go buy an Lotus elise kit car and order the b18c5 with it =P I FORGOT the company that will build it for you.. but they are located in the US and I hear they are trying to use the s2000 tranny and motor in the elise kit car

 

The civic wagons had AWD......but that was a d-series.....maybe you could mod it to fit?........awd turbo ZC

 

i thought there was a crv 4 wheel drive or at least rwd,im pretty sure its cheaper to fit the whole drivetrain than an s200 or nsx,ive always been curious about myself.do some more reasearch and let me know.thanks

 

92-5 jdm Civic RTSi uses a real time 4wd configuration... Does not have a terribly strong rear diff mind you...

Just go custom... mmm... ford 9" diff..

 

Other than the S2000 transmission, I don't think that you will find anything that will "bolt up". And even at that, I'd bet that the only Honda engine that would bolt up to that transmission would be the S2000 engine.

I know that you say that you don't want to "make" up an adapter plate or bellhousing, but you could try doing a search on Kennedy (or KEP) and see what adapters they sell. I know that some Honda engines are used in sand rails and I'm assuming that they use a transmission based on the VW.

If money isn't an issue, you could try contacting Getrag and ask them what transmissions would work.

One last note; you didn't state (or I didn't pick up on it) if you are planning on putting the engine in the rear or not. I've just assumed, and I believe that everybody else did also, that you were talking about having the engine in the front. (the Lotus Elise commented in the prior post has the engine in the rear)

try looking around at some sandrails.. a lot of them use b-series motors in thier RWD setups, some even use old Legend v6 motors, but thier setups are geared more for high torque, mid-engine setups

 

Yes, I mean a standard front engine/rwd transmission. I'd love the s2000 drivetrain, but they are simply too expensive for my blood. I will probably end up with a sr20 or 4g63 and spend the time and money saved in adapting a transmission elsewhere.
I was just hoping for an easy honda solution because I've never had a honda engine and just wanted something different...
The sandrail stuff that I have seen mounts the honda engine to a mid-engine transaxle... nice, but I need the engine in the front.
I have considered a mid-engine rwd civic hatchback with a honda drivetrain in the back seat, but don't have the time to do such major surgery right now.

 

im pretty sure its the one with the silver 6th gen civic coupe on the front...ill check next time im home

 

What some people have done, which IMHO is really cool, is convert their civics to a RR (rear engine, rear wheel) configuration. Option 2 did it with a Del Sol, and some guy on this board did it with an EF hatch.

Really cool stuff if you ask me!
