2000 civic ex 1.6 2dr automatic.
What is the easiest way to modify the circuit so that the headlights shut off when the key is removed from the ignition?
It seems possible to put jumpers in the fuse box. But with separate fuses for high/low left/right this option may be overly complicated.

I SIMPLY want the headlights to no longer be allowed to burn when my key is removed from the ignition.

Can I assume that your headlight warning chime does not work?

 

Its possible, just need to wire in a relay disconnect the ground from the switch when you remove your ignition. I think someone on team-integra did this.

 

if you happen to wire it this way, the key has to be in the ignition every time you need to turn on the headlights. That's more a PITA don't you think?

I'm not mistaking the sincerity of the question. So thanks for asking. But it also could imply a little bit of "maybe he's too dimwitted to actually plug in the toaster folks".
Not here to explain or apologize for my weaknesses, just to get some straight up advice on a simple workaround. I'm "that guy" you see in the parking lot getting a jump start, or fishing out his keys with a coat hanger. If reminders to pay attention to the chimes or remember to grab the keys, always well intentioned, were appropriate you'd be the 27,673rd person in line.
Had a fiat two door hatchback in the early 80s. Dream come true for me. Bliss. Drove it for four years. Passenger could lock her door before exiting, driver could not. Had to insert the key to lock drivers door from the outside. Headlights went out when the key was off ignition. ******* marvelous.

So, simple fix here.? Relay makes sense. But four of the would be needed at the fusebox. Where, upstream, is it possible to insert a single relay? At the stalk where the rotating main switch is obvious, but requires some steering column dissection unless anyone is able to identify the wire color/location within the harness that I can break into with a relay powered by any wire I find that is hot only when the ignition is on.

 

steering column dissection, a SPDT relay should work, relay gets power source from the ignition when you put the key to ignition 1, ground would be from your chassis or from the ground signal already there. GL.
