Default 98 civic VTec or non VTec

How can I tell if engine is a VTec or not. It's a D16Y7 but no where on it does it say it is a VTec. My RSX clearly showed on the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

D16Y7 found in the DX and LX is a non-VTEC engine from the factory.

It is possible to swap the head and some other parts to make it essentially a D16Y8, the VTEC version for the EX. in that case the valve cover would likely say VTEC, and you could find the VTEC solenoid on the back of the head near the distributor.
