"You now have 2 choices. You can ground these to the chassis somewhere. Which will only allow the light to come on when you flip the switch. Or you can ground them to the light green/red wire that runs to your dome light. This will cause the map light to come on like your dome light."
I have it wired the same way that the OP does, here is a image of how I have mine. Listed above is what the OP mentioned about tapping into one of two sources. I chose to tap into the light green/red wire and it doesn't act like my other light. I also have the white/green wire to plug into the map light and tapped it into the same wire on the A pillar. While my door is open I am able to press the buttons and my lights turn on and off. However, when I am in the car with all doors closed the lights do not work at all when I press the buttons. I'd also like them to come on while the door is open as the middle feature (while doors open) that the rear has. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Re: 95 Civic Dome Light Not working When Doors Closed
Bad/silly directions on behalf of the DIY. Because the map light only has one of two settings (ON or OFF) as opposed to three like your dome light (ON, DOOR, OFF), then you will need to choose between these two options:
ON or OFF with door open or closed (how a normal person would want these to function): Tap into WHT/RED (or might be WHT/BLU?).
ON with the door open, or OFF with the door open, and always OFF with the door closed (like, why??): Tap into LT GRN/RED (or it might be GRN/RED).
There is no third option for it to function like your dome light (ON with door open, and able to turn ON and OFF with door closed).
