Default 2000 crv stuck in park

Cannot get the shift lever out of park. 2000 crv awd auto. 200k miles. Girlfriend drove it to her parents house and when she went to drive it home she could not get it out of park. I have checked all possible related fuses and also verified that the brake light switch is functioning. Even manually actuating the shift lock by putting a key in the slot on the steering column does nothing. What else could be causing this thing to be stuck or where else should I look?

The radio works so I didn't think to check it I will go over all the fuses again just to see if any are blown at all. I plan to check where the shift cable attaches to the transmission and see if it's damaged or something. Other then that I'm completely out of ideas. Looking for any suggestions I can get at this point.

Generally, using the shift lock release presses down on the lever to manually release the shift lock solenoid latch. There may be something mechanically wrong if that did not allow the shifter to be moved. Either try depressing the release again and moving the shifter; otherwise, checking the cable, etc. is a good idea. If you want to check the electrical circuits, do you have a multi-meter or voltmeter?
