Default Ex tranny with lx/dx 5th gear??

Is it possible to do? I love the short gears of my ex tranny but it sucks on the highway. I don't really know jack about transmissions YET so could I put 5th out of a dx/lx or even longer geared cx on an ex tranny? Obviously it's a manual tranny, in a 98 sedan with a y7. Thanks!

The gearing is correct for the highway. If you want better mpg slow down to 65 mph or lower and don't accelerate quickly when you don't need to.

No, not when I'm running 3000+ rpm at 65. The question still stands? Really I could car less about fuel economy, I just want a longer 5th gear.

I am not sure on the "D" series stuff... I just don't work on enough of those POS's. Ask Aquafina.

confirm your speedo is accurate. I'm just over 70mph at 3,000rpm with an EX gearbox. (on factory-sized wheel/tire combo)

also, EX (Z6/Y8) has the same 5th gear as the DX/LX (Y7) but a different 2,3 and final. so swapping 5th would have no effect.

trans calc. tool give this a shot if you want to play around with ratios and tire sizing until you get the combo you're looking for.
