Default Civic wagon trunk release

Does anybody know how the hatch release for a civic wagon should look, or have a diagram of one? My hatch doesnt stay closed.

Gotta love that brown interior, lol.

Look at the latch that holds the hatch stiker- there should be a black coating on it. Mine became brittle and broke apart on both an EE and an ED. That allows enough play that the striker can't quite push the latch enough for it to lock. I wrapped some vac hose on the striker to make up for the difference, it's shitty but it works. Hoping to stumble across a replacement someday. If I find one I think I'll take up hunting unicorns.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but your latch isn't closed is it? If it's closed, sometimes the return spring isn't strong enough to push the latch back open, even if you pull the release lever. If this happens, the striker on the lift gate will just bounce off the closed latch when you try to close the lift gate. You'll have to put a screwdriver through the closed latch and lift the release (or turn the key) while pulling on the screwdriver to open the latch back up.
