I have a 2001 civic Si??? With abs that I can’t get the brakes working after replacing master cylinder booster abs pump all the lines front Caliper and pads rear drums and shoes and about a gallon of brake fluid and I can’t seem to get any pedal back. Yes I bench bleed the master, do I have to get Honda to reprogram my abs?

 

The redneck method is to drive down a dirt/gravel road and stomp the brakes a few times. Bleed lines, repeat. It may be impossible if you live in the city, so you may need a computer to cycle the abs solenoid. If you can limp it to a shop it should be inexpensive, just a hour of shop time plus some fluid.

 

I can’t get any peddle back enough to activate them even on gravel, I was hoping that I could activate the pump by jumping a couple contacts or something like that because of my lack of peddle. The redneck way I tried a few times. Brake line blew on the way to inspection facility, I need it so I could get paperwork because it is from out of province, so just to take it to Honda I have to get a permit, I was trying to avoid any more hassle because it has been a pain dealing with the insurance Corp? So you know for sure there is no other way??

 

Can any decent shop do the job or do I need to go to Honda

 

Have you tried pumping fluid in from the bottom up, Meaning take the brake fluid reservoir cap off and pumping in from the caliper fitting, this is the easiest way to get stubborn air out, which sounds like the issue. You'll have to do them one at a time in this process, a little tedious but its always worked for me.

 

So I guess the answer to my question is no I shouldn’t have to get my abs reprogrammed. I have no way to pump them from the bottom , what is the tool I would need?

 

Just a pump oil can, loosen the caliper bleeder valve, remove the brake reservoir cap and pump fluid in until no more air comes out

 

That just sounds totally wrong, any oil can I ever had/have will just add air. My momma said , don't believe everything you read on the interweb , today I'm choosing to believe her.

 

How the hell would it add air if your pumping fluid into it, you have to fill the can first, pump fluid into it.
IDC do what you want stay with no brakes.

 

I've never heard of pumping in brake fluid up from the bottom. You could try a power bleeder which forces the fluid in from the top. Or I've heard of people doing a gravity bleed just letting it flow downward. You may have a bad mc or some other problem because you should get some pedal. It will just be spongy with some air trapped in there.

 

Done it many times, works like a champ.

 

But does anyone know about having to reset the abs, that is my question. I never heard of pumping from the bottom either and especially not with an oil can. Sounds ridiculous

 

The master cylinder is brand new and bench bleed.
