Wondering what I can expect on a labor range from a shop for engine replacement in my 97 Civic (D16Y7). Also wondering if there are any online vendors board members like for used engine resale. Thanks.

 

You're going to need to call around and get some estimates.

Labor rates are usually anywhere from 55-85/hr +cost of the engine.

You're going to want to have the engine refreshed as well (new seals, gaskets, belts, waterpump and maybe oil pump, valves adjusted) which is going to add parts+labor cost.

It's not going to be cheap if you aren't doing it yourself.

 

I can almost guarantee you it would be cheaper to get another longblock and swap it in, rather than rebuilding your current D16.

 

I can also almost guarantee it would be cheaper to sell it not running and buy another running civic.

 

Eh, not considering the cost of title transfer, registration, insurance change. All that potential schtuff.

 

And the fact that the engine/trans/car could also be a ticking time bomb
