Engine swap for 89 Civic LX
So I want to put a new engine in this thing. I know I can get a decent little v-tec engine and drop it in with little problems, but I was wondering; could I get a Chevy LTG engine/tranny and finagle that in somehow? It comes with almost 300hp and torque and it's a small inline 4, 2.0l engine meant for fwd cars with a 6 speed stick tranny.
Just a straight up "yes it can fit" or "no it cannot" and why/how.
If this is the wrong category I apologize.

Yes, anything can fit given enough time and money. You would "simply" need to engineer completely custom engine mounts, axles, fuel lines, wiring harness, intake, exhaust, and much more. Why would you rather go this route when you could use any number of honda motors that have already been installed in this chassis before? A turbo B-series swap is well documented and would make similar numbers as the LTG for much less than a completely custom build. I am all for unique builds, but it is kind of a "If you have to ask" situation.

What is your experience with car building? I am curious about the type of person that isn't afraid to custom fit a drivetrain into a car but isn't willing to rebuild a used engine. I have planned out a mid-engine rwd civic though and think it would be absolutely awesome.
Well, I have zero experience, but I like learning and doing things that haven't been done before. For instance; forcing a big block V8 where the trunk/back seats used to be while also making it all wheel drive. Totally unreasonable, incredibly hard and expensive, but hey, nobody else has done it.
I'm not afraid of rebuilding an engine, I'm afraid of getting scammed paying a grand for an engine that has a fatal problem that a rebuild won't fix. If I get a Chevy crate engine is guaranteed to work and comes with a warranty.

I understand what you mean about buying an ebay engine. I've had the best luck finding them on craigslist and being able to actually check them out in person before buying them. You can often find them for much cheaper than they are listed for on ebay as well. D16's are also very plentiful at junkyards and can make 300whp+ with a simple vitara build and a turbo kit.
Nothing around here at junkyards or Craigslist or even Facebook marketplace. If I wanted a used Honda engine I'd be forced to drive over 2 hours to get to it or use eBay.
