Hey guys ok so I got a 2000 civic si with a gsr swap in it also just broke the header 2 days ago now I did order a new one the only thing is I do have to still drive to work aswell...so I’m wondering if driving the car with one header broken 3 inches from the exhaust area(on motor) would cause any problems all 3 cylinders have the header it’s just the 4th cylinder has a peice still put on but 3inches down it’s broken off.. please help I don’t want to burn valves on a 20k mile build THANKS

 

You could always get some quick steel or some header wrap type product as a temporary fix until your new exhaust manifold comes in.

 

It wouldn’t work for this type of breakage

I already ordered a new header I just wanna know if it wouldn’t affect the motor driving the car to work still

 

Your car is going to run lean considering all that fresh Air rushing into that one pipe therefore it’ll affect your drivability.

 

will it affect it for good or only while it’s not installed yet? Also how would I fix the issue

 

Your o2 sensor is going to think you have too much air meaning it’s going to throw off the computer and try to balance (air/fuel mixture) it out by throwing morre fuel at the engine with you’re situation it’s going to continuous especially with that open pipe. You can only wait until you get your new header or fabricate something so there’s no leakage.

 

ok I see so if I get a new header will it illiminate it from running lean or would I have to hit up rich tune for him to re tune??

 

A new header will do fine. just make sure your exhaust gasket and anything before the o2 sensor is tight and not leaking. Nice to know you’re from WA lol

yup I didn’t want to cheap out I went with a good choice of header this should work but I’m going to go to rich tune and make sure my shot is cool even for small issues like this I’m just iffy about it

 

if you definitely went out of your way to buy an aftermarket header I would definitely do the research and see if it affects the drivability of a vehicle but if it’s close oem I wouldn’t worry about it.

 

yeah originally was trying to find the same aftermarket header as what broke in the car but couldn’t find it so I bought one looked a lil similar with the nice art rather then standard the goes straight down to exhaust

 

Also why I was thinking to have rich tune check everything or even just another shop to check that everything is good to go

no cuz it didn’t break like that. The top part of header broke first at the welds, then the rest finished on its own on my way home
