Default distributor halllp

guys got another one for ya.... ive got a 1992 civic cx with a b18a1. not even entirely how to explain this but if you look at the pictures attached it will kind of show what im trying to figure out ........ the engine with the black valve cover is not mine just a reference picture. if you look at the distributor the flat part is towards the top of the engine which seems right from everything ive seen/read (ive been trying to figure this out for weeks) the green valve cover picture is my engine and if you notice the flat part of the distributor is pointing towards the back of the engine and the bolt holes dont line up (hence the zip tie)

basically im just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what i should be looking at? Timing? different distributor?

Thanks in advance for the help!

lol what’s up with the zip tie man?!?! Get rid of the zip ties!!! No way that thing is timed right!!!

the flat side of the distributor should be facing topside towards the hood. How’s the car running?? If it’s even running....

who built it or put it together?

If it’s not running, put your cams and crankshaft to TDC, then turn the distributor flatside up towards the hood. Before you insert the distributor in, make sure your distributor rotor is pointed to number 1 firing plug
( The number 1 firing plug is bottom left lookin from passenger side. )

The firing order is
3-4 <——top of distributor
1-2 <——bottom of distributor
lookin from the passenger side.

Next get you a timing light and follow the helms manual or google ignition timing.
Base timing is 14*-16*-18*. Time it to 16*.
