Default 1995 ex d16z6 timing questions

Hello everyone this is my first post here, I have a 1995 ex d16z6 1.6vtec sohc and I am a bit confused on the timing. I've read about about timing on this forum and others as well. But my issue is that when I check my timing with the timing light at 16, i get the single line lined up with the cross hairs. The car runs ok just have an issue with oil getting diluted with gas. I thought when checking the timing with the light set at 16 I was supposed to be trying to adjustadj timing with distributor to line up with the middle of the 3 not the single 1 on the crank shaft pulley. So should it be the single or center of the 3? If it's the 3 could this be why I'm getting gas in oil? Only CEL is 43. I was assuming fuel injectors or something related. But now Im not sure about timing. Starts fine as well

If your timing light has a "dial-back" **** or buttons to set a digital "advance" value, you set the desired value and shoot for the WHITE (single mark all by itself) TDC line. If you have a "static" timing light, you shoot for the RED (middle mark of the three close together) 16' advance line. You can check yourself with the first style timing light I mentioned... set it for 16' and move the dizzy to line up the WHITE line with the pointer on the lower timing cover... then move it back to ZERO, and the RED line will align with the timing cover pointer.

Wow thanks that clarified my confusion, I was un aware of the differences of timing guns. Well it seems I'm set to time, single line perfect at 16 degrees. I'll have to check it at 0 and see if I'm getting the red. I have another question but I'll post on another thread. Thanks again
