My 2005 Honda Accord LX (166k miles) has a REALLY bad idle. Usually not right away, but after driving just a bit and coming to a stop, there is a very noticeable rough idle that makes the car bounce. The Check Engine Light sometimes flashes. When driving, there's no noticeable problems. It's only when I stop. If I'm at a stop light and I shift into neutral, the idle goes to a more normal state (but still a little rough). I replaced the spark plugs. I had a mechanic tell me that the coils look fine and that he thinks there's "internal engine damage" and that he thinks there is a "dead cylinder."
This feels like it's going to be a major repair. Where should I start? How can I tell which cylinder is the one that's bad? I'd hate to go through the pain of taking apart a bunch of stuff to look at the cylinders before I know that that's what I have to do.
