What year Honda and what kind of transmission?

Not sure where you heard that, but old ATF is what causes slipping, not fresh fluid. Said another way, such claims are baseless at best and old wive's tales at worst; if you change the ATF and the transmission fails, then the transmission would have failed anyway.

Id change it fully, the manual says to drain and fill it 3 times while taking the car for a short drive in-between each fill to row through the gears. my dad also said my transmission would go out if I changed my fluid, didn't believe that so I swapped it all and now do a partial change once in a while, it's been fine since 135k to 181k now. I'd recommend using Honda fluid only
