Default Key Stuck

I have a high mileage 96 accord (260k) thats key is stuck in the ignition. Car was started and driven home from work just fine. Made it home and turned the car off, key is now stuck between accessories turning on (dash lights) and key releasing from ignition. So basically won't start and can't remove key. Steering wheel isn't and WON'T lock like normal. Brake lights and dome light work just fine. I'm going to try and use some graphite powder tomorrow but does anyone have recommendations besides replacing the entire ignition lock system? Looks like they run around 300$ and up for an automatic and thats only 100$ more than I got the whole car to begin with

I don't know if I'd spray graphite into the ignition since it has electrical components on the back end. I'd keep wiggling the steering wheel around and gently rock the key to ON and ACC to see if she loosens up.

It will likely come out; keep trying, with varying pressure, while wiggling the wheel, with varying vigor. Once you get it out, get new keys made. A big cause of keys getting stuck, is the keys being worn out.

I don't see how your gonna get that key out without lubing it somehow with something. In order to apply just the right amount of lube get a cotton swab wet/damp and press it against the keyhole to get just a small amount of lube in there such as WD40. I love cotton swabs, I use it all the time when I need to apply liquid chemical to stuff such as penetrant on threads.

Just my 2 cents worth.

If AT, try pulling the shifter all the way down to 1, then swiftly cram/crash back into Park.
Cable on the shifter is probably out of adjustment, pull the arm rest off then the shifter bezel to gain access to the cable.

Hey Mad_Mike, I followed your advise about putting my 91 Honda accord stabilizer bar back together a few weeks ago and it worked really well!

Thanks a bunch
