Ep3 clutch help
hey sorry if this thread is in the wrong area but need some advice, I’m looking to buy my first ep3 car it’s an 04 ep3 with 125k miles clean car went and drive it tonight he replaced the struts, Bridgestone tires, brakes rotors and a caliper and few other small bits and bobs, however when I drive it the clutch pedal felt spongey and didn’t feel like it had a lot of travel now my last car was an Acura TLs manual and that clutch feel smooth soft and bit hard however the ep3 didn’t skip when I drive hard (big step down in power from a Acura lol) but the pedal just felt spongey anyone know what this is? I didn’t see any leaks and it is all original, he said he’d take $3800 for it, it is drivable in just wanting one for a daily commute to work cause they’re good in gas... any input much appreciated and again sorry if I posted in the wrong area!!! Thanks y’all
Sounds the clutch is close to EOL. Use that as a bargaining chip if you really want the car.
Put it in 5th at 30MPH and give it full throttle for a few seconds. If the RPMs jump without the car accelerating proportionally, the clutch is cooked.

ckutch didnt slip and it felt like it bit normally, Rpms stayed good as I floored it a little, he did come down $200 and ik I can get my hands in an excedy ckutch for $130 or so and throw it in, but I was thinking it’s more of a salve cylinder issues or master maybe needing bled or replaced
My 04 was like that when I got it, the bypass valve in the CMC was bad. I put in a clutch master cylinder from an 04 1.7 Civic EX to eliminate the bypass valve and it shifts great now. Just saw this was from February but I still hope this helps.
Haha appreciate the reply man, been awhile and since then I’ve gotten use to the clutch and I guess it’s jisy how these ep3s are! Doesn’t slip and what not so I’ve just decided to move on and fix other things with it, still have the car tho! I believe the biggest factor was moving from a powerful v6 with a very smooth clutch to an ep3 which doesn’t haha
Right on! You may still look at swapping to the normal civic CMC in the future as an upgrade. Firms up the pedal some and feels much nicer than the stock one, you get a much more positive engagement feel much like the V6 TL/Accord. Happy modding!
